When the Crowd Stops Cheering – Chalk Talk

The National Football League has taken more heat over the last 10 days than I can ever remember. Once TMZ’s elevator video of Ray Rice and his wife Janay went viral it was game on. Since then Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was indicted and arrested for allegedly abusing his son; Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer was charged and arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman and their 18-month old child and Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy was sidelined for a July conviction of domestic violence against an ex-girlfriend.   Quite a turn of events for a league enjoying record-breaking profits,…

ChalkTalk – The NFL, Ray Rice and Women!

What we can learn from the NFL’s Handling of the Ray Rice Issue? I have listened to numerous interviews and ready opinions about how the NFL has handled the Ray Rice issue. By now most of us have heard about if not seen the graphic disturbing video of Rice striking Janay Palmer Rice, his now wife, back in February in an Atlantic City elevator. If there is one thing it seems everyone agrees with it is that Rice’s actions are unacceptable and horrific. There are a lot of adjectives that describe what took place in that elevator and what the…

Chalk Talk New Year’s Kickoff – Bill O’Brien, Rockets and Craig Biggio

The Houston Texans new head coach Bill O’Brien is already making his presence felt by firing all but one of the assistants from Gary Kubiak’s staff. The Rockets avenged their earlier home loss to the lakers with a 113-99 win on Wednesday night. James Harden led the way with 38 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Dwight Howard added 20 points and 13 rebounds but struggled from the foul line. It’s early in 2014 but there certainly is a lot to talk about. Happy New Year! Chalk Talk – Sports Talk for Women

Houston Texans Fire Coach Gary Kubiak

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair announced that the team has relieved Gary Kubiak of his duties as head coach. Wade Phillips will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season in addition to maintaining his responsibilities as defensive coordinator. The news came on the heels of the Texans losing their 11th straight game to the Jacksonville Jaguars during a nationally televised prime time game Thursday night. McNair started by calling this a very disappointing year for the Texans organization. “We started out with such high hopes. We felt like that we had the best roster that we’ve…

Texans Desperately Need a Win…

The Houston Texans fell to 2-10 with a 34-31 loss to the New England Patriots. Although it was their 10th straight loss, the Texans did show glimpses of what fans expected to see when the season started. The Texans accomplished a few things they hadn’t been able to do in awhile. They scored rushing touchdowns and yes..I mean touchdowns with an ‘s’. They got in the endzone in the second half and Andre Johnson reached a career receiving milestone in record time. It’s short week as they head to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars for the second time in…

Rockets Off To Promising Start

The Houston Rockets are one of the hottest teams in the NBA. They’ve won five in a row and eight of their last nine games including a big road win over the Spurs Saturday night. It’s no coincidence that the Rockets offense has been on the rise since head coach Kevin McHale inserted Terrence Jones into the starting lineup. The second-year forward has reached double figures in his last eight games and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds against the Spurs. The Rockets are 13-5 heading into tonight’s game at Utah. Texans Crumble at Home to the Rams!

Texans fall to 2-and-4 and the forecast is cloudy at best…   When the Houston Texans lined up to take on the St. Louis Rams in Reliant Stadium Sunday afternoon, fans and experts alike thought this would be the game that would allow the Texans to right their ship. No one, other than the Rams of course, could have predicted such a grim turn of events for the Texans and their fans. Quarterback Matt Schaub left the game with an injury to the sound of some Texans’ fans cheering; Safety and key defensive player Daniel Manning severely hyperextended his knee…
